COVID19 & Natick Army PPE Culpability

Zipr Shift had been trying since 2016 to obtain funding from the Army in order to produce superior closures for its Personal Protective Equipment or PPE. We were not funded to be ready for this.

But there is a startup which has…

For the last decade, the Army has solely funded a startup called nanoGriptech (https://nanogriptech.com) for EVERY SBIR concerning superior closure systems for PPE.

How have they been allowed to fund something again and again OVER A DECADE but don’t have even a good sample to put on the body bags, respirators, and protective suits that people on the front lines need RIGHT NOW?

nanoGriptech was funded for every need right now…

People are dying because they don’t have adequate PPE and yet American taxpayer dollars went to support R&D so that American people would be protected in a time like this.

Respirators (started in 2009): https://www.sbir.gov/sbirsearch/detail/194179

Protective Suits (started in 2013): https://www.sbir.gov/sbirsearch/detail/413914

Body Bags (started in 2016): https://www.sbir.gov/sbirsearch/detail/1256779

So…
Over 10 years ago, taxpayer dollars were at work to help protect against something like COVID19 impacting the USA in the future.

nanoGriptech received funding to better protect with respirators in 2009…
…and while no masks with their closures were publicly tested, made, and used

The company was given more funding for protective garments in 2013…
…and while no protective garments with their closures were publicly tested, made, used

The company was cleared to move onto body bags in 2016…
If COVID19 is anything like Spanish Flu, there WILL be a resurgence in the Winter.
How lovely that’s when those body bags can help us all out. Just in the nick of time.

And now there’s no help from that expenditure of taxpayer dollars.

I think a decade is long enough to field something before giving someone even more money.

Look at the history of their government funding and what they’re NOT producing right now to help fight COVID19…

…and tell me that looks OK in the comments below.

  1. It is pathetic they’re making eyeglass cushions right now……..eyeroll…..look on the bright side like we talked about…….The curtain is moving and you’re soon to look at the Wiz!!! This accelerates it…..your patience is paying off kid

  2. It is truly amazing you’re able to say this about the company and not one person has risen to the occasion whether a government figure or private company figure in order to compel you to rethink things.

In a crisis such as this ‘all hands on deck’ truly applies. I wonder as to why this has not been investigated.

Our government must truly be corrupt.

~Startup Founder, following your blog since mid-2017 I believe

    1. Ah well they said they were going to sue me for defamation and I emailed them a lot of questions almost 3 years ago. Still no reply. Still no lawsuit. Any investigation will likely wait until their last contract is finished.
They just got $6M in VC funding. They could throw that at a lawsuit, or to making PPE… and ask the Fed for even more money since their SBIR were successful. It’s GREAT PR to save lives…especially when taxpayers already paid you to.
I don’t think anyone would turn down respirators that fit better, protective garments that hermetically seal better, and body bags that contain infected fluids better than alternatives that the automakers are currently tasked with producing.

  3. If it wouldn’t be of use now then, it never should’ve been funded. This is the time to test the government’s spending on their company. You’re right, Tés, they should be making personal protection equipment for the millions of Americans that helped for them to get this far in their business; medical professionals are hurting.
They’re undoubtedly essential with federal funding for producing equipment for soldiers. There’s no excuse.

      1. I emailed every person and entity that I could about help in 2016 to 2018. I wondered about the sole funding of one solution and inquired…not one reply.
Zipr Shift’s closure was not funded, tested, or trialed for this. nanoGriptech’s closure was and was deemed successful/promising enough to get more money.
Now, they reap what they sow with COVID19…and hopefully learn from their mistakes. The nanoGriptech product is what it is and once it is released as a closure, the folly will be known. And no Army or Army money can make it what it isn’t.

Push their eyeglass cushions together and let me know how you’d trust that on a protective suit.
